Wooden Bridge School Project: Structures Kit Build Guide
A bridge kit is a classic Technology / PAT structures project. The Wow We Bridge B kit (SP_05B) gives learners a laser-cut wooden model they can assemble, test ideas against, and write up — without spending hours cutting parts by hand.
### What this project teaches
• Structures and stability (beams, arches / trusses depending on the design)
• Load paths and why triangles / bracing matter
• Design–make–evaluate skills for school assessment

### What you may need besides the kit
• Wood glue
• Sandpaper for edges
• Optional paint
• Small weights for a careful classroom “load talk” (never overload / never stand on the model)
### Suggested classroom plan
1. Intro: types of bridges and forces (compression / tension — keep it grade-appropriate)
2. Sort and dry-fit parts
3. Glue assembly in stages; allow drying time
4. Discuss where the model is strong / weak
5. PAT write-up with photos and labelled diagram
### Common mistakes
• Gluing before a full dry-fit
• Skipping braces that look “optional”
• Handling the model before joints are set
• Treating it like a real load-bearing bridge
